Role: The YMCA of SWNS is governed by the Board of Directors. As a volunteer, you would guide the Board’s strategy and proper governance of the YMCA. While our focus is to promote and encourage volunteerism through our membership base, we welcome and encourage YMCA members and non-members to get connected to their community through volunteering. If a volunteer is a non-member and therefore does not have membership privileges, access to the facility will need to be arranged with the centre.
All potential volunteers will be asked to complete an Application Form. The application form will then be reviewed by our Centre Manager to determine what roles are suitable and available. You can pick up a form by visiting our facility and asking the staff for an application, or send Samantha an email and she can send you the form.

On the application form, you will be asked to identify three references. Volunteers will be asked to obtain a Criminal Reference Check issued within 30 days of the start of a volunteer placement. References will be checked as part of the interview process.
There are numerous volunteer positions available at YMCA Lunenburg County such as ongoing volunteer opportunities and one-time event opportunities. Volunteering is about sharing your skills with others and learning new ones!
A majority of the volunteer positions are ongoing and as a result YMCA Lunenburg County always accepts volunteer applications. We commit to getting back to you within one week from your application submission to discuss specific roles in more detail. For event volunteers there may be deadlines for applications that coincide with the timing of the event.
All volunteers will be asked to maintain a professional image at all times when volunteering at the YMCA. There are several roles in program that are required to wear a YMCA uniform. Appropriate uniform requirements (usually in the form of a shirt) will be discussed with you.
With a focus on youth leadership, individuals can volunteer at YMCA Lunenburg County starting at the age of 12. Parental consent will be required for all volunteers under the age of 18. A minimum age of 16 is required for Wellness Leader volunteers.
Employment with the YMCA is conditional upon a clear Child Abuse Register Check. For those 18 and over, employment is also subject to a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
